Dr. Aina Emerges as the Pioneer Chairman of the Global Banking Education Standard Board

Dr Segun Aina OFR FCIB, consumate banker, community leader, fintech envoy, social entrepreneur, past President of Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and West Africa Bankers Association was on Tuesday 25th July 2017 elected as the pioneer Chairman of the Global Council of Global Banking Education Standards Board GBESTB.

He had been representing CIBN Nigeria serving on the 12 nation Task Force setup in 2011 in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia to midwife the new organisation. The work of the Task Force was coordinated by CIBN in the last two years. The GBESTB was finally inaugurated on 26th April 2017 and election of the leadership took place Tuesday 25th July 2017.

He was elected the pioneer Chair with three Vice Chairs elected from UK, Hongkong and Ghana. The founder member institutions are 26 from 23 countries across all continents and this is expected to grow to about 100 countries in the foreseeable future.

The GBESTB, with secretariat in Central London, is an initiative founded by many of the world's leading banking institutes, the major objective of which is to develop clear, internationally agreed standards for the education of professional bankers and enhance ethics and professionalism in banking worldwide.

It is modelled to be to the banking profession, what the

a) International Federation of Accountants founded in 1977 and based in New York with 175 member organisations from 130 countries and representing over million Accountants is to Accountants;

b) International Union of Architects based in Paris founded in 1948 and with members from 124 countries representing over 1.3m Architects;

c) Paris based World Federation of Engineering Organisations established in 1968 and representing over 20million Engineers from 90 member countries;

d) International Bar Association set up 70 years ago with member Bar Associations spread across 160 countries.

He and his team on the Global Council made up of representatives from each of the 26 founder member organisations are expected to lay a very solid foundation for this strategically important global body.

This election is coming on the heels of other equally important assignments for Dr Aina in recent times. For instance, he was elected on 3rd June 2017 as the pioneer President of FinTech Association of Nigeria with founding members from across the finTech ecosystem including Ecobank, SunTrust Bank, MasterCard, Lagos Business School, Remita, Co-creation Hub, Banwo & Ighodalo, Deloitte etc,

And on 16th June 2017 the Osun Development Association ODA elected him as Chairman. ODA is the preeminent private sector led development organisation in Osun State comprising of about 80 distinguished and respected leaders, elders/who is who from across the State of Osun.
